Week of October 3-7

Posted - By admin | Comments Off

On Friday, October 7th, we broke into partnerships and each read a few pages of a book called, “Colonial Wars.”  Then we chose 3-5 events from our reading that impacted or influenced the British Colonies.  We drew a picture of those 3-5 events on a large piece of poster paper, and then wrote exactly 20 words summarizing our events.  (The example above has too many words!) We will finish up and present on Monday.  If you were absent–write a 1 page typed (double spaced) report about the French and Indian War.

On Thursday, October 6th, we continued working on our French and Indian War Timelines.  These will be due with our packets next Wednesday, October 12th.

On Wednesday, October 5th, we presented our 3-Voice Poems and then, after some lecture about the original settlers, we worked on timelines of The French and Indian War.  If you are doing this at home:  tape 2 pieces of paper together so you have one big one that is 11 x 17 inches.  (Here at school we used 12 x 18 white construction paper).  Use the “French and Indian War” reading (on my website) to get information.  Put 25 items on your timeline–12 on one side and 13 on the other.  Ten of the 25 need to be illustrated in color.

Tuesday, October 4th, we will finish the “Daily Life in the Colonies Web” and then, in groups of 3, write a “Three Voice Poem” about the colonies.  If you are absent today, see me for information you need to write the poem.

Today, October 3rd, we did a quick reading assignment, “Colonial Life,” and then wrote a RAFT letter–R = Role (Colonist), A = Audience (Relative in England), F = Format (Letter), T = Topic (Life in the colonies–include geography, climate, religion).  Use your own notebook paper, write a full page letter.  Use information from the Colonial Life worksheet and information discussed in class last Thursday and Friday.  Then we broke into groups and started filling out the web worksheet, “Daily Life in the Colonies.”
